Gnosis Defense: Some knowledge is worth defending, with an illuminated grimoire in a candlelit library

THE SHORT VERSION

A library with a
defensive reading list.

Defend a forbidden library with gargoyles, lanterns, and dangerous books. Gnosis Defense pairs tower-defense strategy with tarot counsel, historical esoteric readings, and the dry bureaucracy of a fictional secret order.

Seven trials. Ninety-three waves. A boss at the close of every wave. The Order would prefer that you keep the book closed.

HOW THE LIBRARY OPENED

An interest that got out of hand.

Gnosis Defense grew out of Gregory Stoltz’s interest in esoteric books and the podcasts that discuss them. The aim was a game that occult-curious players could enjoy on its own, with historical readings and sources for anyone who wanted to follow the ideas further.

The first playable game took shape over a weekend; testing, balance, artwork, music, and release work followed. The seven-map campaign happens to total 93 waves. That was an accident.

Between battles, players encounter sourced passages from historical writers. The online Reading Room follows those ideas back to their books and opens the illustrated tarot and adversary collections to everyone.

The Order is fictional. The curiosity is real.

Historical passages cite their editions and sources, and portraits carry individual credits in the Reading Room. The kit does not grant separate reuse rights to historical texts, portraits, or music.
